Veterinary Protocols and Procedures
Protocols
This protocol is a suggestion
and not meant to replace the clinical judgment of your treating
Veterinarian. The Dynasplint® and the Dynasplint®
protocol should be used under the supervision and advice
of a licensed Veterinarian. You will need to speak with
a trained Dynasplint® representative to determine
a specific protocol for your animal. We will customize the
protocol and application to the specific animal and diagnosis
for the best possible treatment outcome. Our goal is to
resolve the limitation in the shortest time possible with
as little stress to the animal as possible.
Many factors which include but are not
limited to patient history, diagnosis, compliance levels,
degree and severity of the injury or condition, will determine
the length of time the Dynasplint® will be
needed. The average treatment time with the Equine Dynasplint®
ranges from several days to a couple of months depending
on the condition we are addressing. The average treatment
time for the small animal Dynasplint® is
1-3 months. The Dynasplint® System uses the
principle of a low-load, prolonged-duration stretch/stress
for treatment of most conditions. In the case of laxity
or conditions that require stabilization, we then reverse
the unit and increase the tension to treat the patient.
Again, it is vital to work with your Dynasplint®
representative to assure correct application and protocol.
Hours of Wear
This will be determined after your individual
needs and circumstances are reviewed by a trained Dynasplint®
representative or fitter in cooperation with your Veterinarian.
In general, the splint will be applied daily and the length
of time will vary with diagnosis, age, and how soon the
Dynasplint® is applied. Most of our splints
require building up wear time to 6-12 hours daily. Please
consultant with your Dynasplint® representative
to determine the appropriate time for your case.
Tension Settings
The tension setting will vary with each
case and diagnosis. Your trained Dynasplint®
representative will determine a starting tension and instruct
you how often to increase the tension setting. Never use
more tension than your representative has instructed you
to apply. It will NOT be necessary to make
daily adjustments to the tension.
Do not increase the
time or tension if you note swelling, skin irritation, any
suspect or adverse effects. Once you reach the maximum tension
and the maximum wear time, if you are not noticing improvement
in the condition, please contact your Dynasplint®
representative. Never sacrifice time for tension unless
instructed to do so by your representative.
* It is very important to remove
the Dynasplint® System daily to inspect the
skin. It is also important to give the leg time each day
without wearing the splint. We highly recommend stall rest
when the splint is being worn. For small animal clients,
we recommend they be at rest while wearing the unit. Stop
using the Dynasplint® System and contact
your Dynasplint® representative immediately
if you note:
- Localized swelling
- Generalized swelling
- Skin irritation
- Any changes to the skin or canon
bone
- The splint slips or rotates
- If lameness is noted after removing
the splint
- Any suspect or adverse effects
