Denise Peterson's Wrist Recovery
Transcript:
Announcer: Meet Denise Peterson and hear her story of how Dynasplint colleagues that work together to improve her range of motion and her life.Denise: I had stepped up onto a chair and I was washing the window and I literally went to get off the chair and it caught. I launched myself, and I came down on my left wrist. I shattered my wrist; I did a good job on it. My doctor [inaudible] and my doctor in Arizona had both told me, "You will be able to get about 30 percent back."
I thought to myself, "Oh, really? I will be getting better than that," and started in on physical therapy. I was probably two weeks into physical therapy down South and Kim, my PT person, said, "You know, your wrist is unbelievably stiff." She said, "I don't believe you're going to get enough flexion without some Dynasplints."
So as she said the Dynasplint I said, "Yes. I need something that's going to keep in the same position." So she tried but as it turns out, there was a problem with the insurance.
Tina: We originally received an order for Denise Peterson for two units: a wrist extension and a wrist flexion Dynasplint. Once our sales consultant Brad Bachmeier went and saw the patient, he realized that she was going to actually need three units: a wrist extension, a wrist flexion, and a supination pronation.
Tanika: When we first obtained the order for Mrs. Peterson, we were hoping to go ahead and get an approval for it. Unfortunately, when we called back, it was denied. However, we were not going to take that for an answer.
Denise: Then Tanika and I got in contact with the doctor. The doctor was still willing to do a peer-to-peer. We got her clinical history, chart notes, letter of medical necessity and had Denise contact her insurance company. We were able to get her decision overturned, all three units were covered at 100 percent and now Denise has been wearing her Dynasplints for a month and is making remarkable progress.
Brad: I had the pleasure of fitting Denise Peterson here a little over a month ago and just recently did her one-month follow-up and she saw a tremendous progress. At the fitting she was 30 degrees extension, 20 degrees flexion, and 20 degrees supination in her wrist. At the one month follow-up she gained 44 degrees in both motions of flexion and extension. She gained 74 degrees extension, 64 flexion, and then she ended up with 80 degrees of supination. What can I say? The rest is history. She is an absolute perfect patient to deal with and she loves her Dynasplints and she saw first hand how effective they are.
Denise: All I know is that my hand, it seems, almost normal. After just several weeks of wearing these things, I'm not golfing yet and the key to this whole thing from day one was I'm a golfer, I don't want this to stop me from golfing, get me better. I think the Dynasplints have been what has helped me the absolute most. So I am very grateful and thankful that I had an opportunity to wear them. I have to give a tremendous amount of credit to Brad and his team, because when I couldn't seem to get anybody to listen or whatever, Brad's insurance person took over.
Thank you so much. I really appreciate it.
