A definition of Tone Management (muscle tension rehabilitation)
Tone refers to our muscular tension and responsiveness to a stimulus. An increase of tone is often caused by spasticity, the abnormal muscle stiffness due to damage in the brain and/or spinal cord. When a patient begins to lose tone, they begin to have difficulty doing things independently. The loss of tone makes it hard to walk, eat, sit up and overtime can cause skin breakdown, contractures and deformities. Higher than normal muscle tone, can limit joint mobility and place one at risk for contracture. The Dynasplint® System, with its consistent and even pressure fatigues high muscle tone and allows a gentle stretch to occur.
