AMC is a disease of newborns resulting in decreased flexibility of the joints. Symptoms differ drastically from person to person, including stiff joints and muscle weakness. The joints of the legs and arms are usually affected, and the legs are affected more often than the arms. The cause of AMC depends on the specific type. For many types, the cause is not fully understood. Arthrogryposis or AMC is not a specific diagnosis, but a physical finding that can be associated with numerous disorders and conditions. Standard physical therapy, stretching exercises and removable splints that permit regular movement and exercise are recommended for treatment.
