Range of Motion

A definition of Range of Motion (ROM)

Range of motion is the measurement of movement allowed at a joint. The best way to evaluate range of motion is measuring the joint with a double-armed goniometer, originating from the full flexed position all the way through to full extension. Patients can lose range of motion in a joint due to injury, trauma or disease. Using a dynamic splint that constantly seeks the end range of movement and applies a gentle stretch beyond will lengthen the shortened soft tissue over time and increase one’s range of motion and flexibility.
This low-load stretch makes it comfortable for a patient to wear a dynamic splint for an extended period of time. If you are suffering from a limited range of motion you may want to consider using a Dynasplint® System as part of your rehabilitation process.
